Editor's note: We think it's unfortunate that the word "hieroglyphics" has come to be associated with bad handwriting or something that's indecipherable. After all, it's not the fault of the ancient Egyptians that we haven't yet figured out how to fully read their amazing script. They invented both math AND writing; did we expect them to leave us an instruction book as well?
